Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to study the metalanguage views of the Colonels of the dictatorship in Greece in 1967, as put forward in a sixty-page text entitled “National Language” published by the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS) in 1972, and in the two improved and enlarged reeditions
the following year. This text-manifesto pertains to the Greek language issue and the choices made by the colonels. Through the study of the specific text, as well as other metalanguage statements and formulated positions of the prime movers of the junta, this paper aims to show the relationship between language and ideology
