Abstract:
In “The Poetry and Poetics of Constantine P. Cavafy”, the academic philosopher John Anton examines the poetic and psychological development of the Greek poet Cavafy, who lived in Alexandria, during the first half of the 20th century. Through a Platonic analysis, John Anton explains Cavafy’s intellectual excellence as the product of psychological, emotional, physical and intellectual development, positioning ‘eros’ as a key concept in this process, by means of an intellectual voyage similar to the one described by Plato’s Diotima and echoed in Cavafy’s poem “Ithaca”
